Sometimes the best getaways don’t require a plane ticket—just the right hotel, a best friend, and a night away to catch up like the old days. My recent girls’ night staycation in downtown Minneapolis was exactly that: equal parts glam, cozy, and carefree.

My best friend and I checked into the W Minneapolis – The Foshay a historic landmark turned sleek modern hotel, perfect for a night away from mom-life. From the moment we walked into the art deco-inspired lobby, we were well taken care of by the friendly staff.

We stayed in a spacious double queen room stocked with all the essentials—plush robes, a lighted makeup mirror, minibar, espresso machine and 24-hour room service. Everything we needed to unwind, glam up, and pretend we didn’t have laundry waiting at home.

Minneapolis is full of amazing restaurants (Bar LaGrassa, Billy Sushi and Zelo to name a couple of my personal faves) and the W has one of the best right downstairs, Manny's Steakhouse. For our bestie night, we opted for another favorite The Capital Grille. It's a tried and true favorite with impeccable service and amazing food, my go to is the Filet Mignon with the Kona-Crusted Rub and Oscar style on the side...just trust, it's incredible. Naturally, we had to have Stoli Dolis, the signature drink.

Back at the hotel, we decided to check out the observation deck 30 floors up at the top of the Foshay Tower. I spent five years (some as a kid and some as an adult) living downtown Minneapolis, and had never done this! We took in panoramic views, enjoyed the fresh air and snapped a few obligatory skyline photos.

From there, we made our way to The Living Room, the W’s chic lobby lounge. We claimed a cozy corner and enjoyed the live DJ, sipped on martinis and were entertained by some top notch people watching. The night finished up just as any girls night should, snuggled up in our jammies eating popcorn and watching Sex and the City - shout out to The W for having Netflix.

The next morning, thanks to a much-appreciated late check-out and black out shaded, we took our time easing into the day. A slow stroll through downtown led us to a charming coffee shop, where we grabbed lattes and found a quiet spot to read and recharge before heading home. No rush, no stress—just a perfect, low-key end to a city staycation done right.

If you’re craving a night away without going far, let this be your sign: pack a weekender bag, gather your girls, and let Minneapolis be your playground for the night.
